Rubicon Nursing care
Rubicon Nursing care helps young people who want to overcome problems in their lives caused by drugs and alcohol.
Our Registered Nurse takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing by searching for any underlying medical concerns or trauma which may be contributing to the young person’s drug and alcohol use.
This service is flexible, confidential and can be done anytime at school or the nurse’s office at Rubicon.
Our nursing care service includes, but is not limited to:
- Health assessments
- HEEADSSS assessments
- Referrals to other professionals
- Follow up appointments
- Advocacy and support
- Education
What will the nurse do?
To get an overall picture of the health of each client, the nurse will start with basic health checks such as:
- Temperature
- Heart rate
- Eyesight
- Hearing
- Blood sugar levels
- Blood pressure
The nurse will also ask for information about who the young person’s doctor and dentist is, if they take any medication, any allergies they have, and whether they have been feeling unwell lately.
She will also carry out a HEEADSSS Assessment which is designed to get a holistic snapshot of the young person’s life. This focusses on:
- Home
- Education/Employment
- Eating
- Activities
- Drugs & alcohol
- Suicide/depression
- Sexuality
- Safety
