Your Physical Fitness

Getting fit, healthy and physically active can open your eyes to your own potential. It can help you with motivation, respect for yourself and others, and can be the stepping stone you need to create a solid plan for your future. Rubicon’s Mentoring, Group Work & Education Youth Activity Program will teach you to believe in yourself, achieve your dreams, and become the best person you can be for yourself and for our community.

There is a fantastic fitness centre on site at the Rubicon office on 13 Rust Avenue, Whangarei, where qualified fitness and health professionals are available to help you achieve your goals. Rubicon also makes use of local facilities for physical training, including the Whangarei aquatic centre, local walking tracks, basketball courts, athletics centre and so much more.

You can also take part in our Defence Careers Training Program which focuses on gaining all the requirements to attend basic training and begin a career in one of the New Zealand Defence Forces.

Outdoors Adventure & Challenge

The outdoors plays a large role in the lives of Northland youth. We swim, we fish, we hunt, and we are a hands-on community. There is a true transformative power to be found in the outdoors. Connecting to the natural world allows us to experience something bigger than ourselves, both internally and externally.

We know that the outdoors is a fantastic place to connect young people with each other and for them to reach their full potential and plan their real futures. This program will be based on real adventure! With Rubicon, you’ll get the opportunity to take part in a large variety of outdoor recreation experiences with a qualified instructor to guide you along the way. Think:

  • Rock climbing
  • Kayaking
  • Caving
  • Surfing
  • Survival training
  • Diving, fishing & gathering

You will have experiences that are physically, mentally and emotionally challenging and at times. Our staff will push you to your limits, all in a safe and supportive environment, to help you conquer your fears.

Rubicon also runs two camps per year as part of this youth activity program where you will be challenged, educated and have lots of fun over a three-day period. Rubicon camps are focused on providing a safe and inclusive learning environment outside of the classroom. The expectation is for participants to realise their capabilities as individuals and as members of a team.

Since 2000, Rubicon Youth have supported and mentored youth in Whangarei, Kaipara and Far North to overcome their problems and reach their full potential. With our team on your side, you will learn how to make good choices in difficult situations and take the first steps towards a bright, successful and substance-free future.
